A Thank You Note from Justin's mom

Authored by Justin Yuen on Apr 19th 2011, 10:55

Thank you all for your show of love and support in memory of Justin. Creative energy and spirituality permeated both memorial services organized by his friends and family in New York and Hongkong, reflecting the depth and breadth of Justin's connections with his world. The large canvas with farewell messages was interred with Justin's ashes at the Yuen's family grave.

To those of you who had not known Justin personally but had participated in various events organized by his friends, such as those through Journey for Justin, I thank you for your generosity. Please be assured that your contributions went either towards his medical costs or to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Caner Center in his memory; a small portion might be used to ensure the completion of his last project, FamilyLounger, an easy communication forum for cancer patients and their loved ones. A body of Justin's works can be found on www.jyuenjyuen.com

As Justin would certainly have asked, what have I learned from this surreal experience? I now have my answer, that our lives are only as good as the quality of the community we will leave behind. From meeting many of Justin's friends these past months, I can conclude that his was indeed a pretty good life.

Please feel free to respond to the posts and to each other. You are the true legacy of Justin's life. I will continue to monitor the Justlive site as long as I find it uncorrupted by spoofs or spams.

Dear Margaret. Yesterday Ellen came and gave me Justin's book. Thank you so much. I read through all his thoughts over and over again and wish he can come down and sign the book for me. Wanting to listen to his unfinished song again I logged in to Justlive and saw yourposting. So happy that you are keeping it alive. I enjoyed the cartoon pictures in F8 very much.Thinking of you and Courtney often and praying that you are both well.Much love, auntie fei

The book was put together for the New York service by his friends. It was so beautifly done. Justin's cousins in Hong Kong prepared another one for the service there, just as thoughtful. I am really proud to have his words, work, and music around.Margaret

Yes, the book is so beautifully done! I looked at the photo of Justin, I think I can see you and your Mum in him.

Hi Margaret and Courtney,It's the 4th of July and I just want to drop you a note to say that you're in my thoughts and prayers. I hope you're both doing well.Take care.Laura

Hi Ronald, Margaret and Courtney,Just wanted to say hi and see how you're all doing. I've been thinking of you all and hope all is going well at your end.Take care.Laura

Just came back from Hong Kong. Wherever I looked, there seemed to be a tall, young man with glasses, reminding me of Justin. Glad to know that other people are thinking about him, too.

Hi Margaret and Courtney,How are you both doing? I am now in Hong Kong with my mom and will be flying back to LA on Monday.Wishing you both a Turkey Day full of yummy food and you're always in my thoughts and prayers.Laura

Dear Justin's mom, About a year ago I met Justin at the hospital. Actually I met his heart first when I looked at his echo first thing in the morning the day he rolled into surgery to remove that mass. And then I met him afterwards. I remember going to transplant conference to help pitch to the team that his heart was strong enough to try the transplant. Everyone wanted him to live- we all said he was a fighter, an extraordinary young man. I am so sorry we could not give him more time. I just wanted you to know that we remember Justin and remember him smiling with you at his side.

Thank you for remembering us. Every memory of Justin comforts me and validates his life. Our appreciation for the dedication, care, and love from everyone in MSK did not diminish because of the outcome. In fact, I am hoping that his spirit would help to sustain your continued effort in understanding cancer and its victims. We are forever grateful for his last three months which might not have been. And I especially thank you, Carol, for taking the time to post. It means a lot to me.

Hi Margaret and Courtney,Just dropping you a quiicky to say hi. Thinkling of you all and take care.Love,Laura
