Never Liked Being One of Many

Authored by Justin Yuen on Sep 10th 2010, 22:07

A bit about my condition: (Not going to get into the scientific details until I'm 100% sure I'm accurate on everything): I have a rare combination of cancers which include a germ cell tumor in my chest and a form of leukemia. Apparently, records of this type of case are in the single-digits, so everything is a bit up in the air. I've never liked being one of many in anything I do, so it's good that I've been thrown a rare challenge.

While I've been through a lot, and I like to think of myself as a strong person, I really have the best family and friends and, and a great team of people at the hospital all making everything a lot easier for me. To be honest, what I've realized is that up until now, I've been a very lucky wimp. Luckily, I've found that I do have the ability to be strong.

Dearest Justin,We thank our Almighty Lord for looking after you and walking with you through your journey of fighting this battle. God is with you. "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.:" Isaiah 43.2. It requires great faith and a strong character to be able to walk through this journey. If you don't mind, I'd like to share your condition with her so that she can also pray for you.

Dear Justin,I am cheering you on! You are one of the most positive people I know. I always think about you every time I find myself drawing an ellipse or walking through Bryant Park. Stay strong! Stay positive along this journey! I have no doubt that you will overcome this. You are a great friend and I keep you in my thoughts and prayers.Love, Liz Zunon

Dear Justin,Thanks to Vena, we've been getting updates about you and your family every few days. When Vena told us that your dad is going back to Hong Kong for a short time and Courtney is going back to work, we knew you've won your first battle. Even though we've lost touch for so long, we still love you and will keep praying for you. Take care and focus on getting well.Talk soon.

Dear Justin,You are an inspiration to anyone who has ever met life's worst adversity. WIth such overwhelming challenge, you manage to maintain such grace, wisdom and humor. Life is unpredictable and as you said, there are many things in life we cannot control. Yet your mental strength is the altering ingredient that affects how you experience life. People often say that half of the battle over physical illness is mental toughness; in that case, you are way passed the half way point. Keep faith and keep getting better. You are in my thoughts and prayers.Love,June
